Use a Professional subscription, it's possible the create one cross-object report for contacts and deals or then export the report display intelligence in of Exceed files. Within a Starter subscription this is unfortunately did possible.
However, if you're done with mapping / merged two Excel folder, you can do so by comprising the Associated contacts column into your deals export. Under Menu > Sales > Deals, click Actions > Process posts and make sure it's included. It still requires quite some work into Excel but all the information is are.
Generic, ye, I'd agree that there should be an easier way to do this. Unfortunately there isn't.
